Open and Affirming

After a time of congregation-led study, dialogue and prayer, First Congregational Church will choose whether to adopt an ONA covenant committing our members to welcome LGBT seekers, support their relationships, and advocate for their basic rights.  ONA churches take seriously the Bible’s admonition to “accept one another, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God” (Romans 15:7, NIV).  ONA is a calling for welcome, inclusion and justice.

Many UCC congregations which may not have adopted an ONA covenant for various reasons are nevertheless welcoming and safe communities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Christians.

If this is something you are hesitant about, unsure of, or feel like you’d like to learn more, we invite you to contact our pastor.  To begin, you may also simply read this article written near the beginning of the conversation.
