Jesus really liked questions. According to some people Jesus asked 307 questions in the Gospels. Meanwhile, out of approximately 183 questions other people asked him, he directly answered . . . three. We will try to have a slightly better track record, but don’t be surprised if we answer your questions with a “What do you think?” or “How do you see it?” because we try to follow Jesus’ example whenever we can.

WHAT DOES FIRST CONGREGATIONAL REALLY BELIEVE?
We probably believe the same things you do: that all people deserve the best life they can possibly live, that we all need to work together if we want the brightest future for our children and our world, that selfishness and hatred are roadblocks to good relationships and healthy communities, and that peace and reconciliation will always trump violence and guilt. We all feel strongly that Jesus gave us clear examples of and profound testaments to these truths, including ways that we may implement them in the world. Our covenant with each other is that each of us cares for and cherishes our church and that our church cares for and cherishes each of us.
DOES IT MATTER WHAT ANY SINGLE PERSON BELIEVES?
Of course! Everyone should believe in something, starting with themselves. Sure, most of us believe in God and most of us believe in heaven, but none of us distills either one to trite rules and regulations. Your relationship with God is your business; your relationship with yourself and your neighbor—locally, nationally, globally—is where communities like our church can offer guidance, support, and love.
CAN I JUST SHOW UP ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY?
You betcha. Worship is at 10:30 a.m, but check out our calendar for more exciting opportunities! There is no dress code, but we do politely request you please wear something.
WHAT CAN MY KIDS DO AT CHURCH?
We believe it takes a village to raise a child, so it is our hope that your kids will feel valued and cared for in our community. We have Sunday School at 10:30 and anyone is welcome to attend. Then the kids come to worship for the first 15 minutes or so and attend a children’s moment, after which they are welcome to stay in church with their parents or go down to the nursery (ages infant-ten years) with our nursery attendants.
WHEN DO YOU HAVE COMMUNION AND WHO CAN RECEIVE IT?
1) We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and we serve bread and a gluten-free option as well as juice.
2) Anyone and everyone, although our church did state in 1856 that slaveholders could not receive the sacrament. 😀
