How to help someone in distress?
The 3 R's for mental distress

Recognize
Be aware of the warning signs using the acronym FAST.
F - Feelings
A - Actions
(changes in behavior)
S - Situations
T - Talking about suicide

Respond
Engage with the person you are concerned about. Sometimes just giving them someone to vent to or even asking if they want a hug can mean the world and make all the difference in that persons life during these difficult situations.

Refer
Actions to take to refer for assistance. Sometimes it has gone too far for you to help them simply by talking. That is okay and you shouldn't feel guilty. That is when it should be given over to professionals. If you feel the person is in immediate danger call 911 immediately
